New to the pool? No worries, Watermelon Swim is here with simple tips to help you care for your little melon after every swim. A few easy post-pool habits can keep kids comfortable, confident, and excited for their next lesson.

Chlorine-Removing Shampoo

Every little melon’s hair is unique, but there’s one thing most hair types have in common: chlorine can be drying over time. The good news is that with the right aftercare, swim hair can stay healthy, soft, and manageable, even for future swim team stars.

For children swimming once or twice a week, chlorine exposure is usually very manageable. One of the best ways to protect hair is by washing it after lessons with a chlorine-removing shampoo, such as TRISWIM. These shampoos are specially formulated to help remove chlorine and pool odors while restoring moisture to the hair.

You can find TRISWIM products right in our Watermelon Patch retail area, just ask the front desk during your next visit!

Pro-tip: Wet your swimmer’s hair in the shower before going into the pool. This step reduces how much chlorinated water can be absorbed by their hair.

Moisturize

Swimming is fantastic for the body, but chlorine can sometimes leave skin feeling a little dry, especially for children with sensitive skin.

A quick rinse immediately after swimming helps wash away lingering chlorine and keeps skin feeling fresh. Following up with a gentle moisturizer or lotion helps lock hydration back into the skin and keeps your little melon comfortable after lessons. TRISWIM also makes body lotion perfect for post-swim skin hydration.

This simple rinse-and-moisturize routine can make a big difference over time.

Pro-tip: Use a simple, unscented lotion that’s gentler on the skin. Perfumes and scents can sometimes cause more irritation and dryness.

Hydrate & Fuel

Swimming is one of the best full-body activities. It builds strength, coordination, endurance, and confidence, not to mention it uses a lot of energy too!

To help your child feel their best in the water, make hydration and healthy snacks part of the swim routine both before and after lessons. Heading into class fueled and hydrated helps children stay focused, energized, and ready to get the most out of every swim session. Sipping on water and snacking on healthy bites on the way home will help keep them fueled for whatever else is on the to-do list that day!

Pro-tip: Watermelon is a great vitamin-packed, hydrating snack for before or after swim!

Swimsuit & Water Diaper Care

A quality swimsuit can last a very long time with the right care. Swimsuits don’t need a machine wash after every lesson, ideally, you’ll do this after about 3 wears.

Instead, after swimming, rinse the swimsuit thoroughly with cool water to help remove chlorine. Once home, hang the suit to air dry completely before the next lesson.

This quick routine helps maintain the fabric, elasticity, and comfort of the suit, so your little melon is always ready for the pool!

If your child is wearing a Splash About Happy Nappy water diaper, you’ll want to hand wash with cold water after each use and air dry away from direct sunlight. If an accident does happen, machine wash in cold water with a detergent that is non-biological.

Pro tip: Choose a brightly colored suit like hot pink or lime green for safer swims!
