Why take swimming lessons in Riverview?

The advantages of swimming lessons extend well beyond ensuring safety and providing enjoyment. Studies have shown that children who engage in swim lessons before turning 5 tend to surpass their intellectual, physical, and social development peers.

Swimming is also an excellent form of exercise. Regular swimming lessons contribute to stronger muscle development and enhance the heart and lungs’ function. At Watermelon Swim, we offer comprehensive instruction in swimming, safety, and survival skills for all ages, from infants to adults.

Why choose our swimming lessons in Riverview

Watermelon Swim is a local, family-owned swim school emphasizing water-safer swimmers and communities. Our mission is to grow a community full of safer swimmers and reduce the risks while increasing confidence in and around the water.

We offer Riverview swim lessons in group class settings or private, one-on-one sessions, so there are convenient options for all swimmers, from babies and toddlers to teens and adults. All swimming lessons are indoors, so you’ll have your class rain or shine. We also own our state-of-the-art swim facilities – no renting space at a crowded gym. Having our own space means we have complete control over our pools, from temperature adjustments to ensuring excellent water quality to the number of students in our facility at any time.

Our instructors are lifeguard trained, water safety trained, and first aid and CPR certified. We focus our training on the individual swimmer and educate each swim student about emergency response in the water, swimming safety, pool rules, and accident prevention.

Our Riverview swimming lessons aren’t just about water safety; we also focus on FUN! From child-approved swimming instructors to engaging group classes, we want our students to develop a love of water fun. All instructors are professionally trained and participate in continuing education in-house and through the United States Swim School Association. The Parent-Tot swim instructors and Swimmers with Disabilities instructors receive additional, specialized in-house training.

Every instructor has been carefully selected for their training, professionalism, and sense of fun! They must undergo 100 hours of training in and out of the water before teaching swimming lessons. We also believe in keeping our skills sharp, so every instructor must attend at least six continuing education courses in the first year and two every year after.

Program Overview

We keep a low student-to-teacher ratio in each of our Watermelon Swim Riverview swimming classes. This permits us to provide personalized, one-on-one instruction and keep everyone safer. Each class is intended to introduce new skills while building on the skills and techniques learned in previous classes.

Swim students are given a solid foundation of knowledge and, before leveling up, will safely be able to complete all benchmarks in the level.

We offer the following types of swim classes in Riverview indoors, year-round. We also provide courses above Level 6, so please ask for more details about upper level classes (Levels 7-9) and swim team prep class, where instruction is given in all 4 Olympic strokes!

The Basics

The majority of our students begin at level 1. However, for those with previous swimming experience, we’ll ask questions during registration to identify the most suitable level for each child. Given that each swim program varies slightly, understanding the skills your child has already acquired is crucial for proper placement. We aim to ensure every child feels successful and comfortable adapting to a new setting! After assigning your child to a class, our team of Instructors, Deck Supervisors, and Managers will closely monitor their advancement to guarantee they are being challenged appropriately.

Every child learns at a different pace; the most important thing to focus on is mastering each skill or technique safely and properly. Your success depends on your confidence in the water and how much you practice, but learning to swim isn’t a race. It’s more important to focus on fun and safety and not getting to a finish line.

Meet Team Melon! Our talented swim instructors have received specialized training in water safety and the techniques necessary to help each swimmer reach their potential. Training requirements include:

  • 100 hours of training (both in and out of the water)

  • Lifeguarding
  • At least 3 continuing educational courses each year
