Why swimming?

Swimmers who start lessons before age five might be more socially, physically, and intellectually advanced than their peers. A study by Griffith University suggests that kids who continuously took swimming lessons had cognitive and problem-solving abilities several months to over a year more advanced than other children the same age.

Swimming is also one of the best forms of exercise, working every muscle group and strengthening your heart and lungs. At Watermelon Swim in Wesley Chapel, our mission is to teach swimming, safety, and survival from birth through adulthood.

Why choose our swimming lessons in Wesley Chapel

Watermelon Swim is a local, family-owned swim school with four private facilities in the Tampa Bay metro-area.

Our facilities are all indoors, so you’ll have your lesson rain or shine and be protected from the hot Florida sun, plus, the water is always warm! Our state-of-the-art systems maintain warm, clean, and inviting water year-round.

Our instructors have water safety, lifeguard, CPR, and first aid certifications. Our instructors are professionally trained and participate in continuous education throughout their careers with us. Watermelon Swim also participates in continuing education through the United States Swim School Association. We concentrate on each swimmer to ensure they master swim emergency response, accident prevention, and general swimming pool safety.

We emphasize water safety in every class, not just our Wesley Chapel toddler swim lessons. Your child will learn emergency responses to water emergencies, accident prevention, and general pool etiquette. Repetition and practice can make safe responses second nature to your child, so their automatic reflexes in a water emergency can reduce the risk of injury.

Swim instructors are carefully selected for their professionalism, thorough knowledge of proper swim instruction techniques, and personalities. We require each instructor to undergo 100 hours of training before they begin teaching swim lessons in Wesley Chapel. In addition, the instructors who teach our Parent Tot classes and Swimmers With Disabilities classes must attend continuous training each year.

We carefully select each instructor through a rigorous screening process, including a background check. They must have completed at least 100 hours of training. our teachers keep their skills sharp by attending a minimum of 6 continuing education training workshops during their first year and at least three per year after that.

Keep swimming,
keep growing

Program Overview

Watermelon Swim’s mission is to build a community of safer swimmers in the greater Tampa area, reducing risks while building confidence in the water.

We offer a low instructor-to-student ratio, which allows us to give each swimmer plenty of individualized attention and ensure that all participants stay safer. Each course builds on the skills and abilities mastered in the previous level.

Our classes are offered year-round, focusing on parent-child lessons through the learn-to-swim classes, levels 1 through 6.

The Basics

When you register, we will ask plenty of questions to learn about your child’s experience with swimming. Every swim school does lessons a bit differently, so if your child has participated in lessons before, our instructors must understand what skills your child has mastered to ensure that we place them in a safe yet challenging level course.

Once we place your child in a class, our Instructors, Deck Supervisors, and Managers watch your child’s progress to make sure they’re having fun, learning, and mastering swimming skills while still being challenged.

Almost every parent asks, “How long before my child learns to swim?” Children learn at different rates, but as long as your child is progressing at a pace that’s good for them, is safer, and is having fun, then their swim lessons are successful. We want to ensure their mastery of each skill and improve their water safety knowledge.

Be patient, give your child plenty of time outside class to practice their new skills, and encourage them as they master each stroke.
