micha’s story
For Micha Seal, teaching children to swim has never been just a business; it’s part of her story, her legacy, and her purpose. Born and raised in Tampa Bay, Micha’s life was shaped by generations rooted in water safety and swim instruction that began long before her. In the mid-1900s, her grandparents taught swim lessons out of Wall Springs Park, helping local children gain confidence and lifesaving skills in the water. Years later, Micha’s mother continued that same mission from the family’s backyard above-ground pool, teaching lessons with humble beginnings and a belief that every child deserved the chance to be safer around water.
By the time Micha was a teenager, she was already in the water teaching lessons herself. What started as a family tradition quickly became a lifelong calling. While raising six children of her own, Micha worked tirelessly to grow and scale the swim program as the need for swim instruction in Tampa Bay grew. Through long days, hard work, and an unwavering passion for protecting children, Micha built what is now Watermelon Swim.
Today, Micha is the sole owner of Watermelon Swim, which proudly serves families across five Tampa Bay locations, with two more on the way. Over the years, the organization has taught millions of swim lessons and generations of swimmers. Even as the company continues to grow, Micha’s mission remains deeply personal: create a community of safer swimmers and reduce the risks in Tampa Bay.
