In a world of 71% water, a child will be 100% curious about exploring it. Teaching your child to swim, including water safety and emergency responses, can make their curious exploration much safer. Watermelon Swim caters to all skill levels – from nervous beginners to those with prior experience, both positive and negative. Help your swimmer grow confidence in the water with swim lessons in Wesley Chapel at Watermelon Swim.
Why Choose Watermelon Swim?
Swimmers who start lessons before age five might be more socially, physically, and intellectually advanced than their peers. A study by Griffith University suggests that kids who continuously took swimming lessons had cognitive and problem-solving abilities several months to over a year more advanced than other children the same age.
Swimming is also one of the best forms of exercise, working every muscle group and strengthening your heart and lungs. At Watermelon Swim in Wesley Chapel, our mission is to teach swimming, safety, and survival from birth through adulthood.
Why choose our swimming lessons in Wesley Chapel
Program Overview
Watermelon Swim’s mission is to build a community of safer swimmers in the greater Tampa area, reducing risks while building confidence in the water.
We offer a low instructor-to-student ratio, which allows us to give each swimmer plenty of individualized attention and ensure that all participants stay safer. Each course builds on the skills and abilities mastered in the previous level.
Our swimming classes in Wesley Chapel are offered year-round, focusing on parent-child lessons through the learn-to-swim classes, levels 1 through 6.
Water Babies – Wesley Chapel
Water Babies classes in Wesley Chapel are our infant swimming lessons. They’re for babies aged 0 to 5 months, a lovely bonding time with parents. We introduce the baby to the water and are partially submerged. Babies improve focus and muscle control in a small group environment. These classes also enhance the development of the whole child. Early, year-round lessons accelerate development physically, intellectually, and emotionally.
Infant Swimming lessons are tuition-free for all families enrolled at Watermelon Swim. New families pay a $55 membership fee that covers all swimmers in the family for a full year.
Parent-Tot 1 & 2 – Wesley Chapel
The next step from Water Babies is the Parent-Tot 1 and 2 lessons. These are for children aged 6 months to 2 years and introduce fundamental swimming skills and water safety. The ratio of students to instructors is low, with plenty of individual attention for each tot. Tots learn safety, survival, and, of course, swimming in two levels.
In Parent-Tot 1, children learn floating, breath control, and get accustomed to submersion, focusing on buoyancy and balance in the water. Parent-Tot 2 builds on these skills and introduces independent movement in the water. Our innovative teaching techniques and small group setting make learning fun, and each child learns valuable skills to prepare for swimming independently.
Learn to Swim – Wesley Chapel
We group our Learn to Swim classes based on ability and age. With a very low (1:4) instructor-to-swimmer ratio, every swimmer gets individualized attention and encouragement. Children are placed with others in the same developmental and age range, and we emphasize learning through fun!
Watermelon Swim instructors focus on water safety and what to do if a child unexpectedly finds themselves in the water. We also teach breath control and basic swimming techniques.
Age 7 & Up – Wesley Chapel
7 & Up Classes are the next levels after Learn to Swim and are for children aged 7 and older. They’re 30 minutes long and have a ratio of 4:1. These classes include the first 4 levels of our Learn to Swim program. Older children are taught how to move independently in the water, utilize a float to breathe while increasing swim distance, and water safety and survival skills. Once completed, swimmers move on to learning swim strokes and more advanced techniques.
We emphasize fun in our teaching methods since statistics show children learn best when the learning environment is fun.
Swimmers With Disabilities – Wesley Chapel
Watermelon Swim teaches water safety and swimming basics for adults and children with mental and physical disabilities. Group and private classes are available, determined by the needs of the student and what learning environment will serve each student best.
Our swimming instructors offer a mix of encouragement and challenging techniques to master. They also include adaptations for each stroke so everyone can participate. We get to know your learning style and the best way to motivate you to make progress.

In your adult swimming class, you’ll learn the basics of water safety for yourself and others, buoyancy and balance, and the breath control needed to master each type of swimming stroke, including swimming underwater. Our Adult Swim classes are adults-only.
